As we kick off a new month... March, marks the beginning of Lions Awareness Month — a wonderful opportunity for every club across the district to step proudly into their communities and showcase who we are and what we do.
Lions make an incredible difference every day through hands-on service, fundraising, and community support. Awareness Month is our time to tell that story. I strongly encourage all clubs to consider hosting an awareness activity, setting up a display, participating in a community event, or simply promoting your projects through local media and social platforms. There are many resources available to support you, and if you need assistance with ideas, materials, or volunteers, please reach out. We are fortunate to have many experienced Lions throughout the district who are more than willing to lend a hand.
Here in Stanthorpe, the Lions Club of Stanthorpe is once again entering this year’s Stanthorpe Apple and Grape Harvest Festival parade with a massive float supporting our Apple & Grape Personality Quest. The last time we entered — ten years ago — our float was named Grand Champion of the Show and was the standout of the parade. We are looking forward to achieving similar success this year with another fantastic creation.
Participating in such a high-profile community event is a brilliant way to generate exposure during Lions Awareness Month. There is nothing quite like hearing the wonderful comments from the crowds as you pass by — it’s a powerful reminder that our communities truly value what Lions do. (See below for photos of the float in progress.)
I am also pleased to announce that the District Community Service Impact Award has now been finalised. The first round will cover projects conducted from January to March, with nominations closing at the end of April. Full details are now available on the district website.
This award has been introduced to encourage clubs to continue growing their service impact, with district support available to help strengthen and expand projects. Over the past two years during my club visits, I have witnessed firsthand the fantastic service initiatives taking place across our district. I look forward to seeing many nominations in this first round and celebrating the outstanding work being delivered in our communities.
Let’s use Lions Awareness Month to proudly promote our service, strengthen our visibility, and continue making a lasting impact.
