I am excited to advise that the new Youth of the Year paperwork has been released and is ready to go. Youth of the Year is a fabulous program to encourage and foster leadership skills in students in their high school years. Giving students the opportunity to emphasise qualities like contribution to the community and school, public speaking, academic skills, sporting and cultural involvement, Youth of the Year aims to bring forth the next generation of outstanding young Australians.
As Lions, let's give as many students as possible the opportunity to participate in the wonderful program, and I encourage every Club in our District to participate again this year - or come back to it if you've had a year off.
Club registrations are now being received and the Club Registration Form is attached to this email along with the current Student Entry Form.
Please complete and forward your Club Registration Form to me as soon as you can, so that you can receive the new website password and can access all the current information to start working on your Club Final.
Remember – the Club Finals need to be help by Saturday 27th February, 2027 - but you can hold it in 2026 if that is easier for your Club and your schools.
Dates for Youth of the Year Program Finals for 2026 – 2027 are as follows :-
* Club Judging’s to be completed by Saturday 27th February, 2027;
* Zone Finals (if app) to be completed on Saturday 6th March, 2027;
* Regional Finals to be completed on Saturday 13th March, 2027;
* District Final to be held on Saturday 20th March, 2027;
Easter weekend 26th March to 29th March, 2027
Qld School Holidays 26th March to 11th April, 2027
* State Final to be held on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th April, 2027 - Hosted by District Q1
Anzac Day long weekend - 24th to 26th April, 2027
Qld Labour Day long weekend - 1st to 3rd May, 2027
* National Final to be held on Monday 10th May, 2027 at the MD Convention in Perth.
Finals - I am calling on volunteer Clubs to host the Regional Finals in your area. You’ll be surprised how rewarding it is and remember, there is financial assistance from District for Clubs that host a Final.
I am also calling for expressions of interest from Clubs who would like to give hosting the District Final and State Finals a go. They are easy to do and also very rewarding for your Club. Contact me for more details on hosting the District or State Final.
