Sponsor a Joy Box this Carers Week – Show Young Carers They’re Not Forgotten
Fellow Lions and Leos,
As National Carers Week approaches this October, we are calling on the compassion and generosity of our Lions and Leos community to help recognise some of Australia’s most remarkable young people — our young carers.
Across the country, more than 300,000 young Australians provide daily care for family members living with disability, chronic illness, mental health conditions, or substance dependency. Many care for siblings, parents, or grandparents, often with little recognition or support — and for those in rural and regional communities, services can be especially limited. This Carers Week, we invite every Lions Club in Australia to sponsor at least one Joy Box — a simple yet powerful way to show young carers that their efforts are seen, valued, and appreciated.
Sponsor a Joy Box – $260 each
Each Joy Box is filled with age-appropriate new toys, games, school stationery, and sports equipment, along with messages of encouragement, and delivered directly to a young carer.

Our goal is to reach 800 young carers this year — and if every Lions Club participated, we could reach more than 1,000 children nationwide.
We especially thank the wonderful Lions we met at the Traralgon Convention — your warmth and enthusiasm for this Category B Project were truly inspiring. For those who were unable to attend, you can learn more through our attached brochure and by visiting our website, where you’ll also find the Barry Palmer AO Kindness Matters Awards nomination form. Australian Past International President Barry J Palmer AO (2013-2014) whose motto was “Follow your Dream” is a supporter of the Lions CaringKids Project. His leadership journey has seen him serve as District Governor for District 201N5 (1996/1997) and as International Director (2000-2002). A proud Lions member since 1976, Barry remains committed to the values of kindness and making a meaningful difference to the lives of young carers. Nominate a Lion, Leo or Community Member who has demonstrated values of kindness in your community for a Kindness Matters Award. Your support will create more joy for children with caring responsibilities.
Together, let’s ensure no young carer feels forgotten. Let’s show them that Lions care for the carers.
